The former California Highway Patrol captain has been charged with sexually abusing a flight attendant while traveling from Florida to Los Angeles last month, prosecutors announced Thursday.
Prosecutors allege that 49-year-old Dennis Wally Woodbury knocked down a bottle of Prosecco during a flight on April 13, slapped a male flight attendant in the butt, screaming “I love you,” and showed another male flight attendant a pornographic photo, according to the criminal charges.
Woodbury of Azusa, if convicted, is charged with felony of abusive sexual contact within the US special maritime and territorial jurisdiction and faces a maximum sentence of two years in federal prison.
Woodbury’s lawyer Annick Jordan declined to comment on the case. Woodbury, who is not detained on bonds, could not be immediately contacted for comment. It is not known when Woodbury stops working with CHP. The U.S. Lawyer’s Office wrote in a news release that he was “dismissed from state services.”
Woodbury had been redirected from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Los Angeles International Airport, according to criminal charges.
Before the flight left the gate, Woodbury allegedly showed the flight attendant a photo of a dog with a blurry image of two men having sex in the background. The man replied, “What a god,” Woodbury laughed, “I was wondering how long it would take you.”
Woodbury suggested that the two men would go on a cruise together.
“when [the attendant] “I demonstrated how the plane’s oxygen mask worked and he saw Woodbury watching him and made a grooming move,” the complaint said.
As another flight attendant was collecting a tray of meals, Woodbury slapped the attendant on the butt using his left hand, screaming, “I love him.”
After the flight, the complaint alleges Woodbury pulled his pants down and exposed his penis to the first flight attendant standing in front of the plane.
Prosecutors allege Woodbury exposed himself a second time after being told he had requested more wine and only had non-alcoholic drinks.
Woodbury returned to his seat and slept for the rest of his flight. According to the criminal charges, he was escorted from the plane by LAX police officers and yelled at one of the flight attendants, “This is your fault because I didn’t go to the bathroom with me.”
Woodbury later told police that flight attendants solicited him to go to the bathroom, but court records show he declined.
