The Los Angeles landmark Griffith Observatory was recreated in Minecraft for visitors to explore at home in a “all-new light.”
Free, downloadable Minecraft maps can be played on Windows, Mac and Linux, and “can allow visitors to engage in the unique, virtual version of Griffith Observatory in first person,” the online statement reads.
The maps are free, but Minecraft is not a game.
“The (map) is characterized by rewarding all observers with art and architecture like life, a compiled educational exhibit, side quests of the Scavenger Hunt, interactive elements and surprises,” the website says.

This map is not one-on-one recreation at the observatory, but has slight differences in playability and game limitations.
The observatory has created step-by-step steps on how to properly download the map.
The observatory above the scenic Griffith Park Los Angeles was dedicated to May 1935. In 2002 the building was closed for renovations and expansion.
The observatory reopened in November 2006. This has been the background to many television and cinematography, including 1955’s Rebel Without a Cause, La La Land (2016) and The Terminator (1984).
