A Long Beach man was sentenced in prison for centuries on Thursday for murdering a 17-year-old high school senior and attempting to shoot four teens a few weeks later.
Troy Lamar Fox, 34, was sentenced to 358 years in prison in March 2024 for taking just a step away from his Long Beach home, and on April 9, 2024, the shooting “lit a car carrying four minors,” Los Angeles County District’s Addie Office said in a news release.

Soto was fatally shot on the night of March 6, 2024 while returning home from work at McDonald’s.
On April 9, 2024, Fox left the vehicle near Pine Avenue and 14th Avenue while armed with a rifle and fired on the vehicle, which contained four people.
“No one was killed, but the shooting led to an attempted murder,” the prosecutor said.
Fox was convicted of first-degree murder, a special allegation of using a gun in the murder on March 27th and using a gun in four attempted murders.
“Briana Soto had her life before her. She was preparing for her prom, her 18th birthday and her graduation,” District Attorney Nathan Hochman said. “Today’s sentence ensures that the person who stole her future will never freely hurt another innocent person. This punishment cannot revoke the pain he caused, but it is a step towards justice for Brianna, her loved ones and our community.”
