The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the deaths of a man and woman who were found to be fatally shot in a car near Point Mugu State Park Wednesday evening.
The unidentified couple was found in a vehicle along the Pacific Coast Highway around 7:40pm and 7:40pm, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Deputies at the sheriff’s Camarillo station found a couple of vehicles. The Ventura County Fire Department received an invitation from two deceased patients and fire trucks from Ventura County, a naval base, were sent to determine whether two of the vehicles were dead.
The Sheriff’s Office said the main criminal investigator and the Ventura County Medical Examination Office determined that a 45-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman were shot and killed.
Investigators believe there is no immediate threat to the public, and say this looks like an isolated incident. The couple is believed to have died for several days, according to the sheriff’s office. Videos from the scene suggest that the car is a dark-colored sedan.
A California State Parks spokesperson said the sedan was found in an area west of the state park’s boundary, and the death investigation is led by the Sheriff’s Office’s main crime unit.
