He was awarded $50 million on Friday by a Los Angeles County ju judge after being severely burned at a Starbucks drive-thru in 2020.
The man identified as Michael Garcia of LA was working as a delivery driver on February 8, 2020. A hot tea drink spilled on my lap from a cardboard drink carrier at the Starbucks location in the Expo Park. According to his lawyers, he ended up with three degrees of burns up to his gro caliber.
The Los Angeles man was awarded $50 million by the ju apprentice after suffering serious burns when his drink spilled at the Starbucks drive-thru at the Expo Park in 2020.
Later that month, Garcia underwent two skin grafts on her genitals, and now suffers from a permanent disfigurement, his lawyer says.
“Michael Garcia’s life has changed forever,” said Nick Laurie, one of Garcia’s lawyers.
The lawsuit filed by Garcia accused Starbucks of the case. Garcia’s legal team said a Starbucks employee who runs a drive-thru could not properly secure the lid to one of the hot drinks.
Starbucks plans to appeal the decision, the Associated Press reports.
The Seattle-based company said it “opposes the ju-search decision that we are responsible for this case and believes that the damages given are excessive.”
The company provided Garcia $3 million before the trial began, his lawyer said.
