Authorities are investigating the death of a 40-year-old man after a physical altercation outside of a COVID-19 unincorporated Glen Ivy area business early Sunday morning, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies at Lake Matthew Sheriff’s Station responded to a report of the fight in the 9000 block of Pulsar Court on July 13 at about 1:34am.
When they arrived they had already managed life-saving measures on the scene and were later identified as Covid resident Rene Nieves.
Despite their efforts, Nieves was declared dead at the scene, according to Sergeant Mike Kelleher, reporting supervisor for the incident.

The circumstances surrounding the argument have prompted the response of the central murder unit in the department.
Investigators were taken to the station and worked with detectives to identify and interview other individuals involved in the case that were later released. No arrests have been made.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said the case will be filed with the District Attorney’s Office for review at a later date. Authorities stressed that there is no continuing threat to the public and that no additional suspects are considered involved.
The investigation remains active, with authorities not releasing any further details.
