The maker of the first electric flying ferry that came to the United States shows what is called the “future of lake transport technology” of Lake Tahoe.
Swedish company Candela is demonstrating the C-8 leisure boat through August 6 in a partnership with Flytahoe, the company said in a news release.
“The Candela C-8 offers the longest range and highest cruising speed of all electric vessels in serial production,” the company said. “The true magic of the hydrofoil appears after takeoff. Rather than tackling the waves, it glides comfortably over the chops, focusing on the passengers, enjoying the sounds of nature instead of the engine roar.

It is the same technology used by Candela’s P-12 ferry, transports up to 30 people across the lake, and also has rooms for gear such as bicycles and skis.
“The Flytahoe ferries connect the northern and southern parts of the lake within 30 minutes, but running around the lake often takes more than two hours in winter,” the company said. “Flytahoe creates important links with 14 world-class ski resorts surrounding the lake, making it an ideal choice for tourists and locals too.”
The Reno Gazette Journal reports that ferries could be operational on Lake Tahoe by 2026.
