A New York judge ordered Mayor Eric Adams to temporarily suspend a program to run immigration agents at the city’s infamous Rikers Island prison.

Judge Mary Rosado banned “actions to negotiate, sign or implement a memorandum with the federal government” before hearing on April 25 in a lawsuit challenging the plan.

The lawsuit against Adams comes from the Democrat-controlled New York City Council, which seeks to bar Adams from working with the Trump administration on the fight against illegal immigration.

The lawsuit focuses on Adams’s recent executive order, which can help federal immigration authorities run their Rikers Island offices by plaguing cities with criminal investigations into drug trafficking, organized violence and immigration gang activities.

In the lawsuit, the city council accused Adams of engaging in the Trump administration of illegal “Quid Pro Quo” by putting ice in city prisons in exchange for lowering federal corruption charges against him.

The lawsuit argues that Adams, who is running for reelection as an independent, will prioritize his own political goals over the city’s “valuable sanctuary laws” and call the executive order “Adams’s addict in his dealings with the Trump administration.”

Fox News Digital has contacted the mayor’s office.

Adams previously announced that he would represent his first vice mayor, Randy Mastro, to handle all decisions regarding the return of the ice to Rikers Island, to ensure that there is no even a emergence of conflict.

Mastro said last week that discussions with the federal government over the plan were ongoing.

ICE previously existed in Riker, but in 2014, agencies were banned from prison complexes in 2014 under New York City Sanctuary Act, which restricted cooperation with immigration enforcement.

Peter Pinedo and the Associated Press of Fox News Digital contributed to this report.
