The mayor of Riverside County, California, took him to social media Wednesday to warn residents to stay home amid ongoing federal immigration attacks related to President Donald Trump’s deportation policy.
A post about the city of Perris Facebook page entitled Public Services Announcement says the city is receiving reports of an ongoing “ICE operation” in the area.
“We encourage all residents to stay calm, stay indoors if possible and know your rights. Don’t go out unless you need it. Stay home and don’t open the door to strangers,” Mayor Perris Michael Vargas said in the video.
According to the US Census Bureau, approximately 78% of Peris’ population is Hispanic or Latino.
The mayor’s message is that Department of Homeland Security officials are running daily enforcement projects targeting places frequented by individuals, businesses and day workers.
The mayor’s message did not mention any particular ice manipulation or arrests in the area.

On Tuesday, Bishop Alberto Rojas released Catholics from the Parish of San Bernardino’s duty to attend the public and encouraged them to engage in personal prayers in light of the attack.
“All faithful members of the Parish of San Bernardino who are unable to attend the masses or masses of the Sacred Duty Sunday due to the true fear of immigration enforcement measures will be excluded from this obligation as provided for from this obligation until this decree is revoked or amended,” Rojas’ message was posted to X.
