The huge million tickets purchased on a whim have almost fallen into the trash, but instead became a million-dollar victory for the lucky owner.
Joaquin Vaughn Redo was traveling through California with his family when he stopped by the Newport Coast Drive pavilion in Newport Beach. In addition to their groceries, he grabbed a huge million ticket, a daily family tradition when the jackpot grew up.
“When the pot is big enough, the whole family gets excited and bites at any bite,” Vaughn Red told the California lottery.
Days passed and the family had forgotten their tickets until it was discovered two weeks later. Initially, Vaughn Redo was ready to throw it away.
“I was actually going to throw them away, because I said, ‘I’ve never won the lottery,'” he admitted.
But after checking the numbers, he couldn’t believe it. He matched five numbers in the drawing on August 16, 2024, missing only the mega number.
Instead of being thrown into the trash, lottery tickets will help you pay your down payment at home, lottery officials said.

His victory was just one of the most recent multi-million dollar awards billed in California.
Jose Balthazar Campos won the Scratcher, which he bought at Bellflower’s B&K Market. The player with the Erskine surname purchased the Scralder, which won at the 7-Eleven in Huntington Beach. Royer Villa Toro Lopez won the championship with a ticket purchased from Jade Video in Roland Heights.
These three have won at least $1 million to play these scratch games, along with winners from San Diego and Santa Clara County.
In total, these recent victories have won over $6 million in prize money for California lottery players. According to the California lottery, the funds purchased by players provide supplemental funding to public education efforts throughout the state.
