As President Donald Trump strengthens his border security and deportation efforts, agents with customs and border protection (CBP) and immigration customs enforcement (ICE) are exposed to a surprising, sophisticated threat to their security. Experts told Fox News Digital.

“Cartels are losing their business. They are the lowest in decades, and cartels don’t just quietly abandon their business,” he told Fox News Digital.

Comments come after it was reported over the weekend that CBP agents would no longer wear body cameras while operating the field. This is the answer to a Reddit post that claims to help track agents wearing cameras in an application called BLE radar. Bluetooth scans such devices within a 100 yard radius.

“All agents will refuse to use BWC until they hold off on completion of investigation and risk mitigation [body worn cameras] Until further notice. It will become popular when additional guidance and information is received,” the weekend order issued.

The agent’s pursuit was presented as a way to help migrants find soft spots at the border, but opened the agent to threats to their safety, including improvised explosive devices.

Cartels can also use tracking information to threaten agents’ lives, Ries noted.

“There’s a possibility that you can use the camera. Low-level frequency interception allows you to track agents, hurt agents, and attack agents,” Reese said.

Ries also noted that cameras play an important role in protecting field agents from false claims of abuse, providing important evidence that they do not have after meeting immigrants.

“We expect the number of abuse claims to jump up and down to exploit this camera’s lack of use,” Reese said.

Speaking of cartels, Reese noted that there was a warning being sent that the cartel could use a shooter on the other side of the border to use the target agent.

“We just saw a note about the possibility of using Mexican shooters to film agents and troops, so we should assume that it is planned and use measures against it,” Reese said. I did.

Lease also noted that cartels have been effectively using drones to track CBP agents in the past, but with the increase in military presence at the border, the threat could be lower. there is.

Aside from threats from the cartel, CBP and ice agents face dangers from inside the US border, Ries noted, and leaking ice attacks as an example of recent at-risk agents It points to.

“It ambushes ice agents,” Reese said. “It’s one thing that aliens can escape. So when ice appears, there’s no one there. If an alien is here and attacks an ice agent, that’s a risk.”

Such planned operations and leaks of technical vulnerabilities could continue to be a threat to agent safety as people opposed to Trump’s enforcement-led agenda are hoping to undermine those plans. There is, Ries said.

Countering such threats not only takes awareness and wise tactics during operation, but also provides council support to ensure that agents have enough resources to equip them with the agents to combat dangers. Masu.

“It’s technology, it’s equipment, it’s Intel, it’s personnel. They can’t patrol on their own. They need to work together,” Ries says. “The Congress is working slowly, but we are continuing to acquire resources from CBP and ICE to continue these massive deportations. Congress needs to hurry.”
