According to the new book, then-senior adviser to President Joe Biden reportedly urged President Donald Trump to have a discussion as soon as possible.
The book “2024: How Trump Recaptured the White House and the Democrats’ Lost America,” is set to be released Tuesday, claiming that Biden’s team dismissed concerns about his age during the 2024 election cycle.
The book, written by Josh Dorsey of the Wall Street Journal, Tyler Pager of the New York Times and Isaac Earnsdorf of the Washington Post, says that Biden’s senior advisor wrote a memo advocating for the first spring debate.

This strategy will allow Biden to start early voting on the battlefield, setting the conditions for the debate that is most favorable for Biden, and, according to a memo on the issue, he can take on Trump before emphasizing Biden’s “leadership” in contrast to Trump.
“Chasing your first discussion in the spring will help you reach the widest audience possible before the summer months deepen into summer months, before customs, Olympics and family holidays are prioritized,” Biden’s senior advisor reportedly wrote in a memo issued by the Politico Playbook on April 15, 2024. “And if we can discuss it earlier, Americans will be able to see you standing next to Trump and showing the strength of your leadership compared to Trump’s weakness and confusion.”

Still, the book reports that some Biden aides were hesitant to discuss early on, with some even arguing that Biden should not argue Trump at all. Specifically, the book cites Biden’s donors who pushed the White House in May 2024 to report Biden’s actions as “unstable” in a Chicago fundraiser, then pushed the White House to find a reason to separate him from the discussion.
Meanwhile, the Trump White House said the debate backfired Biden, and instead shed light on Biden’s own weaknesses.
“The only highlight of the debate was that Joe Biden was unable to form a perfect sentence,” White House spokesman Taylor Rogers said in a statement Monday to Fox News Digital. “American voters have seen firsthand what Biden’s weaknesses, his campaign in Chaos and what it looks like when a real leader went missing from the White House.”
“Unfortunately, for Democrats, no advisory or so-called “strategic” moves could save their incompetent candidates and horrifying policies from President Trump’s historic landslide victory,” Rogers said.
A Biden spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital.

Biden and Trump ultimately faced off in the discussions on June 27, 2024. This is the event that prompted Biden to close the election in July 2024, and in November 2024, Vice President Kamala Harris to face Trump.

“2024” is one of several books released in 2025, detailing Biden’s mental deterioration in office and how Trump won the election. Another example is the book “The Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Concealment, and the Disastrous Choice to Run Again.”
