The Orange County District Attorney’s Office accused Santa Ana High School students of murder and attack with fatal stabbing of a 14-year-old classmate in an after-school fight.
The 15-year-old, who was not identified because he was a minor, faces two counts of assault with a deadly weapon that allegedly stabbed two other classmates this week.
Authorities say the teenager and his 17-year-old brother turned to police on Wednesday hours after the fatal incident in front of Santa Ana High School.
Santa Ana Police Officer Natalie Garcia said the brothers were questioned by investigators and then transported to the juvenile hall where they were booked. She said the 17-year-old was in custody.
The incident occurred Wednesday at 3:25pm when a Santa Ana school police officer reported a stab wound that occurred in a fight in front of Santa Ana High School.
At least three male students, ages 14, 15 and 16, were found with stab wounds and paramedics were taken to the hospital.
Prosecutors said the 14-year-old boy was stabbed in the heart and was identified by authorities as Armando Morales of Santa Ana. His family created a GoFundMe page to raise funds for funeral expenses.
Misael Morales writes that his brother is a happy and clever child known for making people laugh.
The victim’s cousin Jazmin Delgado reflected those words in an interview with KABC-TV.
“He was always a happy child, always loved help, he was just an amazing little kid,” Delgado told the station.
Armando’s family said the teen was in the wrong place at the wrong time. They said he was intervening to help his friend when he was stabbed.
The conflict remains under investigation by police who claim that people involved in the fight, except for the victims, were affiliated with the gang.
