Authorities are being searched for a temporary man suspected of stabbing an Orange County Sheriff’s Deputy while conducting a routine homeless outreach in San Clemente on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 2:15pm near the 1700 block of Avenida Estacion, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The adjutant suffered an inch tear to the life-threatening 1-inch neck, and was taken to hospital and later released, said department spokesman Matthew Parrish.
“All of our agents are trained in a variety of resources available to homeless people,” Parrish said. “When they’re patrol them, we encourage them to talk to homeless people and see if they know these services and if they can connect them to help.”
The department is seeking public help in finding suspects who are said to be white in their mid-30s with brown hair, blue eyes and whiskers. He was known in the area, and finally saw him run towards the storm drain near Avenida Pico and El Camino Real, wearing a black jacket and dark pants.
“If you see a suspect, don’t approach him and call 9-1-1,” the department said in a post on X.
Two nearby schools, San Clemente Hai and Las Palma primary schools, were temporarily evacuated while deputies responded to the incident, and the public was warned to leave the area.
