The Pasadena woman took advantage of a second shot to earn money.
State lottery officials announced Friday that Heidi Felipe had recently won $40,000 through a second chance bonus draw in the California Lottery.
“When I saw the email, I couldn’t believe it,” Felipe told lottery officials. “The next day I went to the lottery office, where they made sure it was authentic and I had no words.”

Felipe said he used her prize money to pay off the car.
“I play often, but this was my first win,” she added. “That’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
The second chance program in the California Lottery has players who are drawing the game with Superlotto Plus and Fantasy 5 players, as well as scrackers who are not favored. Tickets can be entered online or via the California Lottery App, via your personal lottery account.
In addition to Felipe’s victory, other players have recently claimed a major cracker prize. Meber Hawaii won the top prize of $10 million from a Super Bonus Scratcher ticket purchased at Sunrise Liquor & Market at Rancho Cucamonga.

Rosario Ares de Carrehas won $1 million from the ultimate cash ticket of $1 million purchased at Fresh Donuts in Inglewood. Finally, Marco Carillo claimed a $1 million prize from a Loteria Grande Scratchers ticket purchased from Corbin Express Wash in Northridge.
Participating in the California lottery also supports funding for public education in the state.
Ticket sales from draw games such as Powerball, Mega Millions, Super Lot Plus, Fantasy 5, and unclaimed lottery 5 prizes are awarded to California public schools.
