Just 10 minutes after the Delta plane landed at San Francisco International Airport, law enforcement and federal agents entered the cockpit and arrested the pilot, authorities say.
Arrest on Saturday left Agape.
A group of officers and agents told the San Francisco Chronicle, “We went through the aisle and headed towards the cockpit where we cuffed the co-pilot before chasing him away,” a passenger told the San Francisco Chronicle.
Rustom Bhagwagar, 34, of Florida, has been arrested on suspicion of sexual offences against a minor.
Contra Costa County Sheriff and agents of the Department of Homeland Security arrested Bagwagar at 9:35pm on Saturday after a Delta Air Line flight from Minneapolis landed at SFO, according to a sheriff’s news release.
Authorities said Bagwagar was arrested and booked at the Martinez detention facility for five oral mating with children under the age of 10. His bail was set at $5 million.
The investigation into Bagwagar began several months ago after authorities received reports that they allegedly committed a sexual offence against a child, according to their release. Contra Costa lawmakers discovered that Bagwagar was a pilot and arrested him when the flight was over, with support from homeland security who did not take part in the investigation.
A Delta spokesman said in a statement to the times that he has “zero tolerance” on alleged misconduct.
Lawmakers said an investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Investigation Department (925) 313-2600 or (866) 846-3592 for anonymous tips.
