A giant rainbow-colored headdress, sitting on a bison, beckoned Angeleno and the other generations of drivers heading towards Nevada on 15 highways.
Certainly, Las Vegas was only 40 minutes north, but at the resorts and casinos in Buffalo Bill, patrons could enjoy gaming, drinking, neon lights and entertainment without the prices and crowds of Sin City.
The era of Prim Valley Resort, which operates Buffalo Bill on a desert strip known as Prim along the California Nevada border, has announced the resort’s imminent full-time closure.
“To provide the perfect experience for today’s guests’ expectations, Buffalo Bill will shift its 24/7 business to Prim Valley Resort & Casino,” the company said in a release Tuesday afternoon, referring to its sister resort adjacent to the Buffalo Bills.
Primm Valley, owned by Affinity Gaming, added that Buffalo Bill’s will still be holding concerts and special events at the Desert Arena star. Buffalo Bill casinos, food, drinks and hotels will operate at that time, Affinity Game told The Times Wednesday morning.
There are several concerts and events on the schedule.
The company did not say when the hotel would be closed. Las Vegas’ insider Vegas advantage broke the news on Monday evening.
Hotel reservations in Buffalo Bill can be booked through the Prim Valley site and through third-party vendors, but rooms will not be displayed for use after Sunday. Guests who try to book a reservation at the Buffalo Bills after Sunday will be redirected to Prim Valley Resort.
Prim Valley did not say that it announced what would happen to workers employed at the Buffalo Bills.
The resort is a three-finals built by the Primm family and was placed in the unedited town of Clark County, previously known as the State Line.
Whiskey Peat, which closed in December, first opened in 1977, followed by the Prim Valley in 1990 and the Buffalo Bills in 1994.
The hotel has 592 rooms at the opening (the Bellagio has around 4,000 rooms), and was eventually expanded to 1,242 rooms.
Buffalo Bill invited guests with its low prices and attractions.
When it opened in 1994, it was the world’s tallest and fastest coaster. Visitors cried 209 feet above the highway just outside the resort.
The Desert Arena star held major acts in the opening year, including Captain & Tenil. We also booked Levamantea, Aretha Franklin and Snoop Dogg in 2009, according to the Las Vegas Sun.
That year, the hotel wrote that “a $2 beer, a $7 Prime Rib dinner and a $25 show” also served guests who wanted an old Las Vegas flavour.
The Buffalo Bill was temporarily closed due to the pandemic in March 2020 and reopened in December 2022, but it struggled to attract customers like all Primm hotels.
Visitors posted videos of vacant shops and restaurants on the Prim Outlet Mall and the vacant gaming floor.
Prim Valley did not provide any information on what would happen to the hotel’s in-hotel attractions, such as the famous Bonnie & Clyde V-8 Ford.
Affinity Games hopes that patrons will be drawn to the position of the last casino.
“We invite guests to join us in the Prim Valley, where you will find the latest slots on the floor of the redesigned casino, beautifully appointed rooms, an oasis pool experience and fantastic food,” the memo read.
