Authorities say a San Bernardino man was arrested on suspicion of breaking into a sheriff’s department vehicle shortly after his release from prison.
Manuel Nunez Palomino was arrested around 10:45am Thursday in connection with an outstanding misdemeanor traffic warrant and booked at San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Central Detention Center on East Rialto Avenue, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Department.
The next day, at 12:18pm, Nunes Palomino was released from custody and was seen on security cameras walking through the sheriff’s employee’s parking lot, according to the release. Nunez-Palomino is said to have tried to enter several vehicles by pulling several door handles. The news release did not specify whether the suspect was trying to enter a police car or a personal vehicle for department staff.
One of the agents went to the parking lot and said he saw Nunes Palomino open the unlocked door of the occupied vehicle. The driver of the car told him to get out of the car, as he was scared of him being taken away.
Lott’s aide approached the car and ordered Nunez Palomino to stop, but he escaped from the vehicle and was later taken into custody and arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery of the vehicle, the release said.
