The 50th anniversary special for “Saturday Night Live” began with Paul Simon and Sabrina Carpenter singing “Homeword Bound” and a music generation clashed.
Simon told the audience that it was the first song he sang with former Beetle George Harrison in 1976.
“I wasn’t born at the time, and my parents weren’t born,” Carpenter told the Simon and Garfunkel alum.
“Please, please,” the singer took to the stage with comedy legend Steve Martin sung as a duet before giving the host’s traditional monologue.
“Lone said I was doing a monologue… on a friend’s boat in Steve Martin Bay,” the “The only murder in the building,” joked the star.
Martin also cried out “in the crowd” to the show’s writers.
“By the way, the honor of the writer was written by AI,” joked Martin.

The “Father of the Bride” star was then joined by John Mulany, who joked that the celebrity host was the most important part of the show.
“I look around and see some of the most difficult people I’ve worked with in my life,” joked Mulani.
Martin Short then went on stage and was soon taken away by an ice officer to be Canadian.
“We’ve been working together for a long time, and we actually ended our careers with each other,” joked Martin.
“SNL 50: The Anniversary Celebration” will air live on NBC and Peacock at 8pm ET, featuring many of the show’s most well-known cast members and hosts.
Martin Short chatted with Access Hollywood’s Emily Orozco on the red carpet ahead of “SNL50: The Anniversary Special.”
