The North Hollywood father was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for brutal assault that permanently injured his 14-month-old son.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the assault occurred on March 22, 2022, when the child was taken to hospital for emergency surgery.
The boy’s father, Cesar Daniel Cabrera Jr., 23, “confessed and admitted the abuse” during police questioning. He was taken into custody by the LAPD.
He was initially charged with assault on a child, resulting in a permanent nature and paralysis of child abuse, resulting in major physical injuries.
On June 5, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced that Cabrera was sentenced to 12 years and eight months in a state prison for assault.
He did not admit to one felony of child abuse under conditions that could likely cause major physical injuries. The petition included approval of a special allegation that caused serious physical injuries to a child under the age of five.
Cabrera also refused to admit the contest for two counts of two robbers (one in each of two separate cases) and was sentenced to an additional eight months, giving her a total sentence of 12 years and eight months.
He was ordered to pay the child full compensation and a 10-year criminal protection order was issued.
“The level of violence given to this unprotected child is nothing but a monster,” said LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman. “This office continues to pursue maximum accountability for those who hurt children. Justice calls for less. We want to thank the prosecutors who worked tirelessly to bring justice in this heartbreaking case.
