“The Streets know who did it”: Rewards offered in the murder of Southla

Authorities sued the public Thursday for the lead in the unsolved 2024 murder of a 21-year-old woman shot in an alley in South Los Angeles.

Lanai Dees was driving a white Mercedes-Benz in an alleyway on Century Boulevard around Westmont at 12:40am on November 17th.

The fatally wounded Dees crashed into a concrete stairs in an alley, De Jung said.

At a press conference Thursday, when Dees passed away, De Jong said the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is offering a $10,000 reward for lead.

“We believe someone in the community has important information about this murder,” said Central Eu, who is adjacent to members of the Dees family.

Her mother, Darling Dees, said Dees was studying to become a nurse, describing her as “the light of our family.”

The “co-sick” who killed his daughter “just took it and darkened it,” she said. “It’s hard to pass her room every day and then she comes out and say, ‘Good morning, I love you, mom, mom, I love you.” ”

Dees’ grandfather, Odis Snead, said if such a murder occurred in Watt in his childhood, “Hood wouldn’t let this run away. Someone would come forward and say something.”

“The streets know who did it,” he said. “If you know something and don’t say anything about it, that means you agree. If you don’t say something, that means you’re being shot in the street like a dog.”

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is offering a $15,000 reward for information on Legonette Morgan’s murder. On July 2, 2024, the 22-year-old was shot dead in a white Mercedes-Benz on Vermont Avenue, about two miles from where Dees was killed.

De Jung said detectives do not believe the killings of the two are linked. He asked anyone with information to contact a murder detective at (323) 890-5500.
