Parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties can expect an April shower on Thursday before temperatures warm up over a sunny weekend.
It began falling Wednesday afternoon in eastern Ventura County, according to Brian Lewis, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
Storm clouds present a small opportunity for thunderstorms in the area, he said.
The rainfall is light and only about a quarter inch is expected on Thursday, Lewis said.
Other parts of the Los Angeles Basin, including downtown Los Angeles, Inglewood and Downey, the chances of rain are much lower, with temperatures around 10% to 20%, low to mid-60s.
Rainfall is not expected to threaten landslide issues in areas burning in the Palace and Eton fires in January.
Lewis predicted that the storm clouds would dissipate on Saturday, giving way to “good arid warming trends.” Temperatures are expected to remain cool on high beaches in the 60s.
However, the thermometer will continue to rise until Sunday. He said most areas of Los Angeles County can reach lower areas in the ’80s.
The short storm comes just days after state officials announced that the state’s snow pile reached 96% of the average on April 1, when snow seasons usually peak.
A near average snow pack means the state is expected to record a third year in a row of adequate water supplies on the mountains.
