Tennessee Council has re -introduced the 2025 legislative conference bill. This is trying to fill the shortage of school resource officials by being able to hire retired enforcers and retired law enforcement.
Republican member Tim Rado has re -introduced a 2025 legislative meeting bill. It was passed by the lower house at the last legislative meeting, but could not pass through the Senate.
The bill allows the public charter school to serve as a school resource officer as a prestigious retirement and retired law executive.

The applicant has completed a 40 -hour basic training of the school policy, passes a qualified test to purchase and own a handgun, and receives a written permission to carry or own firearms on the school premises. You need to be evaluated by psychiatry and pass the FBI’s criminal history check.
“They still have to be trained. The reason they try to find more resource offices in these rural areas is to keep their children especially,” Rad says to WTVC. Ta.
“This certainly doesn’t solve the shortage problem, but it will help,” he added. “Ultimately, it depends on the school system whether they want to use them, and what guidelines and rules they have set up.”

Rad says that the proposal will help a veteran and a retired law enforcer, but the main priority is to protect children.
A man who has been working in the Navy for more than 20 years has stated that this measure could be a chance for the veteran to find a new purpose and become a student roll model.
“They have all the skills needed to bring them into school environments as resource officers,” Mickey Maccamish told WTVC.

Maccamish says that these individuals are perfect roll models for students, although it can be difficult to shift from military life to private life.
“In order to be in the position of a resource officer or part of school life, there was no better fit for students to have a veteran as a student.”
