Rwanda has agreed to attract illegal immigrants deported from the United States amid the Trump administration’s plan to send deportees to third countries.
Under the agreement, the country accepts up to 250 deportees from the United States and “the ability to approve each individual proposed for resettlement,” Rwandan government spokesman Yolande Makoro told The Associated Press.

Rwanda will become a third country that will take on illegal immigration from the US
Last month, the Trump administration sent 13 men. It was said to be a dangerous criminal illegally in the US in South Sudan and Esvatini, Africa, after their homeland refused to reclaim them.
The US says it is seeking more agreements with African countries.
“The United States is always engaged in diplomatic conversations with foreign countries who are willing to help Joe Biden eliminate illegal aliens who have allowed him to infiltrate American communities,” a White House official told Fox News Digital.

In addition to Rwanda, the United States has deported hundreds of Venezuelans and others to Costa Rica, Panama and El Salvador.
In early July, the US Supreme Court ruled in favour of the Trump administration, allowing certain immigrants to be deported to countries outside of their homeland.
In 2022, Rwanda signed a contract with the UK to accept migrants who arrived there to claim asylum. The transaction was scrapped when the UK’s Labour Government took over.
Criticism of the deal has raised concerns about Rwandan human rights records and the dangers to refugees.

Furthermore, the UK Supreme Court held in 2023 that the transaction was illegal as Rwanda was not a safe third country for immigrants.
