The Trump administration targets racism in Ivy League schools, law journals

The Trump administration has launched an investigation into Harvard University and Harvard Legal Review after allegations that the journal discriminated against readers who wanted to respond to articles about police reform because it is white.

The Ministry of Education and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) have launched an investigation into the possible violation of Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

The investigation was launched in response to both federal agencies that received the Journal Membership Policy and Practices and the selection of articles that could violate Title VI.

In a press release, HHS reportedly wrote that the editor of the Harvard Law Review wanted to reply to an article on police reform that “four out of five” were “white men.”

HHS also said another editor of the review proposed that “the author was a minority so the work should be subjected to a quick review.”

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination based on race, color and national origin in educational programs and activities that receive federal funds. Violations of Title VI could result in loss of funds from the federal government.

“The Harvard Law Review article selection process appears to choose winners and losers based on race. It employs a plundering system, even if the race of legal scholars is not more important, or more important than the achievements of submission.” “The demand for Title VI is clear. Recipients of federal financial support may not discriminate based on race, color, or country of origin. There is no system – their lineage, fame, or wealth does not exceed the law. The Trump administration will not allow Harvard or other federal fund recipients to trample on who’s civil rights.”

In a statement to Fox News Digital, the school said, “Harvard Law School is committed to ensuring that the programs and activities it oversees are in compliance with all applicable laws and is committed to investigating credible violations. Harvard Law Review is an organization run by students who are legally independent of the Faculty of Law.

The investigation announced earlier this month that the Trump administration is continuing its feud with elite educational institutions, threatening to cut more than $2.2 billion in funding to Harvard University, further reducing its $1 billion in federal grants and funding.

Harvard University announced on April 18 that it would freeze more than $2 billion in federal funding for the agency after refusing to comply with a series of requests from the Trump administration to reform various practices on campus.

Harvard President Alan M. Gerber said in a statement that President Donald Trump’s administration not only addressed anti-Semitism on campus, but also addressed additional demands that the agency would not follow because the demands were unconstitutional.

Gerber said the new demand, including auditing audits of student, faculty and staff monitoring points on campus and eliminating all diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs, offices and initiatives at Harvard University, is “direct government regulations of Harvard’s ‘intelligent conditions’.”

“The intent makes it clear that it is not to work with us to address anti-Semitism in a collaborative and constructive way,” Gerber writes. “We have notified the administration through our legal advisor that we will not accept the proposed agreement.”

The Trump administration launched a federal task force in February to combat anti-Semitism. It aims to eradicate prejudice on campus that has experienced cases targeting Jewish students since October 2023.

“It’s time for elite universities to take matters seriously and continue to receive taxpayer support, and commit to meaningful change,” the task force said in a statement.
