Fueled by highly destructive storms, multiple fires have burned more than 38,000 acres in Los Angeles County so far, most notably the devastating Palisades Fire in Pacific Palisades and the Eaton Fire in Pasadena and Altadena. – Fire (same as Eaton Canyon).
With thousands of Angelenos in the vicinity of these fires being ordered to evacuate, it is no surprise that all museums, restaurants, and parks within these areas remain closed. But as some degree of containment begins and some evacuations are lifted, some spots are opening their doors to provide a safe haven for Angeleno residents even as we all grapple with dangerous air quality. I also saw them restarting. Below is a list of major Los Angeles landmarks that are closed today due to fires, and previously closed locations that have reopened.
What has been restarted?
Rakuma
Miracle Mile Museum LACMA reopens this weekend, offering free admission and free parking in the Pritzker Lot Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. “We hope that spending time with art in the gallery’s safe indoor environment will bring a moment of respite and calm during this difficult time,” the museum said on Instagram.

The Natural History Museum at Exposition Park has reopened its indoor spaces and general admission is free on Saturday and Sunday. Meanwhile, the La Brea Tar Pits will remain closed this weekend “out of an abundance of caution.” The adjacent park is open.
academy museum
The Academy Museum reopened on Saturday, but its terrace remains closed.
Universal Studios Hollywood and CityWalk
Although outside the fire and evacuation zones, the theme park and attached shopping center were closed due to wind and fire conditions. But it reopened on Friday.

Getty Villa + Getty Center
The Palisades fire surrounds the Getty Villa, but the museum says the villa remains safe and intact as of the evening of January 9th. Trees and vegetation on the grounds burned, but buildings and collections were not affected (read more about how the museum keeps them safe). The Getty Villa and Getty Center in Brentwood will be closed until Thursday, January 16th.
Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine
The Palisades Fire surrounded the Meditation Garden, but thankfully, as of Thursday evening, all of the heritage buildings were intact, and the temple and retreat buildings were also undamaged. However, part of the resident monk’s accommodation, a small visitor toilet, and a storeroom were destroyed. The shrine will be closed until further notice.
Will Rogers State Park + Topanga State Park
The historic ranch house and stables at Will Rogers State Historic Park and the bungalow-style Topanga Ranch Motel at Topanga State Park were both destroyed by the Palisades Fire. Both parks remain closed.

La Cañada Flintridge Botanical Garden is “closed until further notice.” No major buildings or gardens were affected, but many tree branches, power lines and fences were downed, and several trees were also downed.
Norton Simon Museum
The famous Pasadena Art Museum will be closed until Thursday, January 16th. The museum says tickets purchased between January 9 and 13 will be redeemable for the next 30 days. If you have tickets and have questions, please contact us at tickets@nortonsimon.org.
Skirball Cultural Center
The Sepulveda Pass Museum is closed today “for the safety and security of the public.”[its] Both visitors and employees. ” To reschedule or refund tickets, please call (310) 440-4500 or email info@skirball.org. The museum is scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, January 15th.
griffith park
Griffith Observatory will be closed all day Saturday. The LA Zoo and Autry Museum are closed until further notice, and Travel Town has announced they will remain closed until Sunday, January 12th. The trail to the Hollywood sign is closed as well, and in fact, the entire park is closed until Sunday.
Runyon Canyon
Like Griffith, popular hiking trails in Runyon are closed until Sunday. Especially after the Sunset Fire, which burned nearly 43 acres along the western edge of the hill Wednesday night.
huntington library
The San Marino Museum and Botanical Gardens announced that they hope to reopen on Wednesday, January 15th.
The Broad
The popular DTLA Art Museum closed Wednesday out of high alert and extended its closure until Sunday. Tickets for this week will be accepted until March 23rd.
hammer museum
The Westwood Museum has announced that it will remain closed and will reopen on Tuesday, January 14th.

The DTLA Museum of Art closed its Grand Avenue building and Little Tokyo store again on Friday. MOCA Grand Avenue will reopen on Tuesday, January 14th, and Geffen Contemporary at MOCA will reopen on Thursday, January 16th.
bob baker marionette theater
Highland Park Puppet Theater has suspended performances until January 12th. However, you can catch the performance on Vidiots on Monday. Eagle Rock Movie Theater will host a free children’s program from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The touring production of “Wicked,” currently playing at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater, has canceled Saturday’s performance. The musical is scheduled to resume on Sunday.
