More than a million dollars worth of gems were stolen from El Monte’s business after a group of burglars proceeded through the ceiling and inside the store.
The owners of Meza’s gems are dealing with their financial losses after the burglars targeted the El Monte location on Sunday. The business’s back office was plundered and the perpetrator took off on all the jewels in the store, according to the owner.
“Because that’s everything we’ve been working for five years.
The thief somehow managed to drill holes in the jewelry store and the next door, and enter the business through the ceiling. Several safes were broken and all the jewelry in the store was photographed.
Surveillance footage showed a group of masked individuals leaving the scene. The business’s security system was turned off, but police were not notified of the break-in at the time.
“(We’re) hardworking families who wanted their own better,” Meza said.
The stolen jewelry was not covered by insurance. Following the theft, Meza jewelry owners posted a video on their social media pages, expressing their sadness and urged the public to support their donations.
The case is under investigation.
Sunday intrusions continue with the trend of jewellery stores theft. Earlier this month, four people were arrested in connection with a $3 million jewel robbery from Simi Valley.
