Los Angeles police are searching for two men who stole an ATM in the wide sunlight downtown on Thursday.
According to KTLA, security cameras recorded theft.
“A masked individual-run white SUV and subsequent masked passengers pulled the vehicle onto the sidewalk in front of the business during the wide daylight about an hour ago,” LAPD said in a social media post.
Store owner Zoila Barrales told KTLA that customers were watching the man push the car on the sidewalk next to the car.
“We had clients. We had a family with little girls here,” she said. “My employees told them, ‘I’m going inside.’ There they placed all the customers inside the equipment room, as you never know. ”
In the video of the incident, after the SUV retreated, a man dressed in black face masks and all black clothing entered the store, then reentered the vehicle and immediately set off.
The incident has been even more nerve-wracking given the recent wave of vandalism that has hit downtown from protests and ongoing immigrant raids, Barales said.
“It’s all going on, so honestly, this just adds a little more to the fear people have right now,” she told KTLA.
Detectives are looking for evidence to help identify suspects.
“Anyone who has cell phone video or surveillance video is asked to call a robbery detective in the central department,” the department’s social media post said.
