The emotional scenes from the 2019 film are used to scare wolves on local farms.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the tense scene between Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver from the film Marriage Story is being used by the US Department of Agriculture.
The agency is playing audio from the scene on speakers across farmland on the West Coast to scare wolves attacking livestock.
USDA officials said Audio was chosen to explain to the wolves that humans should be feared.
“We need wolves to respond and know that humans are bad,” Oregon’s USDA district supervisor Paul Wolf told the outlet. He has led operations for federal studies of wolf Hayes with drones since 2022.
Other methods used include using drones and AC/DC “ThunderStruck”, fireworks and gunshot replay.
The WSJ reports that the at-risk gray wolves are “terrorizing herds of livestock in the West of America.”
The owner of Prather Ranch in MacDowell, California, told the publication that the wolves killed about 40 calves.
The WSJ said the drones were deployed in the Klamath Basin in Oregon after 11 cows were killed by wolves in 20 days. When the drone was on the patrol “in 85 days of nest,” only two were killed.
Since 1995, wolves have been returned to Yellowstone National Park, with attacks on cattle and sheep increasing. However, as wolves are endangered, ranchers cannot harm them.
