As we know, Christmas always falls on December 25th.
But Thanksgiving has always been the fourth Thursday in November, and sometimes it was as early as November 22nd… or this year… it was November 28th at the latest.
Let’s rewind.
Remember when Halloween was on a Thursday and November 1st was a Friday? This set the calendar in motion to crush the remaining holidays.
It was almost a week into November before Thursday arrived, so the fourth Thursday of the month would come at the end of the month. It’s actually the slowest Thursday.
As a result, the 27 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas alone feel like one less week and one less precious event weekend.
In 2023, there were five weekends between holidays. There are only four weekends this year.
On top of that, with Christmas looming mid-week, people may feel even more cheated by not being able to book vacations around the weekend. Since many people take vacation during Christmas week and New Year’s week, having the vacation in the middle of the week may have forced people to choose one week rather than both.
It’s not crazy, but I have a set calendar.
Over the next few years, this short holiday cycle continues until the fourth Thursday of November moves forward little by little, giving us an extra week of vacation, and the cycle repeats again.
