A series of joint law enforcement operations launched by California Gov. Gavin Newsom has resulted in more than 6,700 arrests, approximately 5,000 stolen vehicles being recovered, and hundreds of firearms have been seized in San Bernardino, Bakersfield and Oakland, officials said this week.
Through these partnerships, authorities aimed to reduce road violence and criminal activity in high crime areas in 2024.
“I’m proud of the CHP executives, who continue to serve the community, stop crime and hold accountable to bad actors,” Newsmom said in a statement. “The partnership with local law enforcement agencies helps to provide a sense of security for communities across the state, exemplifying California’s commitment to putting citizen safety first.

Bakersfield has arrested 680 felony arrests, 1,174 stolen vehicles recovered and 3,315 arrests with 87 firearms seized.
“The City of Bakersfield announced that 2024 was the safest year since 2021. This showed a 57% decrease in homicides and 60% less shootings compared to the previous year,” the news release said.
Auckland experienced an overall 34% decline in crime, including a 25% decrease in robbery and a nearly 50% decrease in robbery, of which 1,504 were felony, 3,578 stolen vehicles recovered, and 192 illegal gun confiscation.
In San Bernardino, where the operation began in October, officers arrested 1,311 people. They deployed high-tech surveillance tools targeting vehicle theft and sideshow activities, contributing to a wider reduction in violent and property crimes.
Since 2019, California has invested $1.1 billion in fighting crime and strengthening its law enforcement resources, according to the Newsom’s Office.
