Three men were arrested for robbery. This may be related to a national trend known as “bank judges.”
Bank judges are trending crimes in which suspects chase victims to take away their customers’ cash at the bank and wait for victims to chase them to the next location.
On July 2, officers at the Irvine Police Station were investigating two vehicles robbery in an area where the victim had just withdrawn their money.
Police say they identified the suspect’s vehicle as a black Ford expedition using a fake license plate.
On Tuesday, July 8th, officers found an expedition on a fake license plate visiting a bank in Orange County, believing they were looking for a victim.
The suspect was seen robbing a car at Seal Beach after the owner had just made a bank transaction and stealing a banker’s bag, police said. The detective stopped them and arrested three men.
When detectives searched the suspect’s vehicle, they found stolen banker bags, fake license plates, robbery tools, ski masks and cash.
Maurice James, 24, Samuel Marcus Polite, 20, and Ja Vion La Champ Matthews, 22, of Texas, were arrested and booked at the Orange County Jail.
They are all faced with charges such as conspiracy, robbery of vehicles, felony vandalism, possession of robbery tools, possession of stolen property, and more.
Detectives are also considering whether the three men were involved in the robbery on July 2nd.
“It encourages bank customers to be cautious and aware of their surroundings when making cash withdrawals. If you withdraw cash, proceed directly to a safe drop-off destination,” Irvine police said.
