Three people were killed and one hospitalized after a Tesla Cybertruck crashed in Piedmont on Wednesday, authorities said.
Piedmont Police Chief Jeremy Bowers said dispatchers received an iPhone alert from a passenger in the Cybertruck around 3:08 a.m. The vehicles collided at King Avenue and Hampton Roads.
Bowers said the Tesla was engulfed in flames by the time officers arrived at the intersection.
“This is just a tragic loss of life,” Bowers said. “While we do not know what caused the collision, our hearts go out to the families who will be dealing with this tragedy during the holiday season.”
There were four people inside the Tesla at the time of the crash. Another driver got out of the car and managed to pull one of the passengers out of the Tesla, Bowers said.
Three people died and one was hospitalized in stable condition, authorities said. The identities of the three people who died have not been made public.
Piedmont Police Lt. Chris Monahan said the Tesla “jumped the curb, struck a cement wall and became wedged between the wall and a tree.”
