Police are searching for three suspected theft targeting victims in Orange County.
According to the Tustin Police Department, the trio usually deflect victims with a ploy to steal their debit cards without question.
In the recent Tustin theft, police said they pretended to look for money the suspect had dropped and persuaded the victim to open their wallets while searching.

During the ordeal, they stole the victim’s debit cards and later made numerous withdrawals from various banks.
Police said the ploys used by groups may differ in each case, but the most common method appears to be “a hassle when the suspect can delete the debit card without the victim’s knowledge.”
Before theft, suspects usually see the victim enter pins at the ATM or pay at the store, police said.
In some cases, the entire victim’s wallet was stolen, not just a debit or credit card. Police have released surveillance images of the three suspects.
