In the race between Joey Chestnut and Usain Bolt, who can make the 100 metre dash faster after eating a hot dog?
Fans of professional athletes and hot dog eating contests are split as well, as new hypothetical scenarios have been spreading through word of mouth on social media.
In a Tiktok video posted by the official PGA Tour account, professional golfers were asked whether the nationally recognized, competitive Eater would beat eight Olympic gold medalists Sprinter in the proposed race.
Without hesitation, Max Homa replied with the hypothetical “Yeah, I think Joey Chestnut.”
Later in the clip, he explains that he thinks chestnuts are likely to run 100 meters in under 20 seconds, saying, “It’s pushed hard to be able to eat a hot dog in 20 seconds. Yeah, I’m going to Joey Chestnut.”
First, Jordan Spieth asked how quickly the chestnuts can eat a hot dog after being trapped in a bolt. (Chesnut was once again the winner at the Hot Dog Meal Contest on July 4th this year, consuming 70.5 hot dogs and bread in 10 minutes.)
After questioning some of the race logistics, Spieth decided on a sprinter as it could lead to a head start for chestnuts, such as whether or not the hot dogs will be consumed at the starting line.
“I think the hot dogs can beat wolves pretty quickly, so I’ll go with someone who can run faster,” he said. “Now, if you said, “Run with ten hot dogs.”
“Joey Chestnut will smoke him at 10 o’clock (hot dog before running),” Spieth added. “I think even the two might be close.”
Saheeth Theegala reasoned that “even if Joey runs 15 seconds of 100 meters,” golfers felt that Chestnut would win.
“I don’t think Usain will see him eat it within eight or ten seconds, even if he swallows the (hot dog) as fast as possible,” he said. His final consensus is that once you finish the entire hot dog that finishes the bolt, it takes longer than the chestnut’s ability to run 100 meters.
Within many internal discussions and detailed analysis, professional golfers have been rather divided over who will win the competition. And the comments section below the Tiktok video entertained the proposition equally.
“Joey definitely uses this,” one user wrote.
“Do you know how many calories Usain Bolt has to eat to maintain his performance level?
Comparing the widespread view of Olympic medalists as “the fastest man in history” felt wild to compare them to Nathan’s 17-time champions of July 4th’s competitive diet contest, but this time, some still theorized chestnuts bring back gold.
Other comments marveled at the “spark question” itself, and as one user wrote, “This is the biggest hypothesis of all time.”
“Everyone who comes up with this question deserves a raise,” another wrote.
One commented, “I don’t understand how much I will pay to see the answer to this.”
