The co-chairs of the House DOGE caucus said there is “real motivation” behind achieving the mission of reducing the federal deficit.

Rep. Blake Moore (R-Utah) is the vice chair of the House Republican Conference and the sixth-ranking Republican in the House, and recently joined Rep. Aaron Bean (R-Fla.) and Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas). State) and leads the party caucus.

The group’s name, an acronym for “Achieving Superior Government Efficiency,” is a new advisory committee commissioned by President-elect Trump and led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, the Department of Government Efficiency (for short). DOGE).

The caucus’ first meeting is scheduled for Tuesday. Moore said he hopes they can “build some structure around what we want to accomplish and set up some first easy wins.”

He did not elaborate on what those wins would look like, but one of the caucus’s main goals is to provide recommendations to Musk and Ramaswamy on how to make the federal government more efficient. He suggested that it should be communicated.

“We have people from different committees who have great ideas about areas where we can find efficiencies, and we put it all on paper and ultimately provide some recommendations. “We’re here to help,” Moore said.

The Utah Republican hopes his unique position as a member of the House leadership will allow him to serve as a conduit between his caucus and other legislative leaders.

“I was looking for another opportunity to help run the conference,” Moore said of his decision to become co-chair. “There’s been a lot of bipartisan work over the years leading up to this kind of thing. We needed this moment as a catalyst for that. So I think leadership I’m just excited to be part of the team.”

He also suggested that the enthusiasm for DOGE was different from previous government efforts.

“There’s real motivation behind this, and the American people are excited about this. For example, I’m the chair and co-chair of the Ski and Snowboard Caucus. Utah has… some of the best skiing on the planet. ‘We have the best snow in the country and everything else,’ and it doesn’t attract attention,” Moore said.

“But I also became a co-chair of the DOGE caucus, so I see that there is widespread interest in this from both sides of the home media.” [and] Components. we have to respect that. ”

Moore also dismissed concerns that DOGE’s meme-inspired branding would dampen public reception, arguing instead that it would help get Americans excited about the mission.

“Doge” is also the name of an internet meme popular in the 2010s that depicts a Shiba Inu and is often accompanied by broken English phrases that appear to be the dog’s internal monologue.

Musk has made no secret of his affinity for the meme, coining the name “Department of Government Efficiency” while posting references to the meme on X (formerly Twitter) before President Trump made it a reality. Even. He also promoted a cryptocurrency of the same name.

“I’ve never seen voters so excited and engaged,” Moore said. “The fact that it’s The Governor, I think this is how people connect now. Well, that’s a good thing because it resonates. So it’s definitely something that will make people laugh a little bit. I think.” Find the irony there. ”

“Anything that can get people’s attention, you have to use it for good. Then you have the potential to make an impact.”
