Amari Cooper and DeAndre Hopkins may have already swapped jerseys, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be a shortage of players on the move heading into Tuesday afternoon’s 2024 NFL trade deadline.
The Detroit Lions are looking to strengthen their pass rush after losing standout DE Aidan Hutchinson last month, but they completed a deal with the Browns to acquire pass rusher Za’Darius Smith, making them the first on deadline day. I grabbed the chance.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the three-time Pro Bowler is headed to Motown in exchange for a fifth-round pick and a sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Along with Smith, the Lions are looking to get back a seventh-round pick in the 2026 draft.
Bears trade Herbert to Bengals in need of late pick and running back
The Lions weren’t the only NFC North team to make a move Tuesday morning. The Bears traded backup running back Khalil Herbert to the Bengals in exchange for a 2025 seventh-round pick.
Cincinnati will be without Week 1 starter Zack Moss for the time being as he deals with a neck injury.
Herbert, a sixth-round pick out of Virginia Tech, has carried just eight times for 16 yards this season. He scored a touchdown in Chicago’s Week 2 loss to the Houston Texans.
Cowboys give 4th round pick to Carolina for WR Mingo
The Cowboys also entered the deadline sweepstakes, strengthening their injured receiver room by acquiring former Ole Miss standout Jonathan Mingo from the Carolina Panthers, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. That’s what it means.
Mingo traded to Dallas for a 2025 fourth-round pick, Pelissero reported. The Cowboys get back a 2025 seventh-round pick along with a 23rd-year rookie acquisition.
Through nine games in 2024, Mingo had 12 catches for 121 yards at Carolina. This is a developing story and more trades are expected to be added as they develop throughout the day.
