Transport Secretary Sean Duffy called for the Biden administration, which allegedly ignores agency reports about the poor state of the air traffic control system.

In an X post Tuesday, Duffy shared an excerpt from a report published by the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) entitled “Air Traffic Control: FAA Action Is Emergency Needed to Modernize Aging Systems.” The report was published on September 24th, 2024.

“The government’s watchdog has warned Biden and Battygigue about the failure of the air traffic control system,” Duffy wrote.

“Look at this report. They knew the air traffic control system was tense and they hadn’t done anything yet!”

Duffy went on to say he is working with President Donald Trump to modernize the system.

“In collaboration with @potus, we are trying to do something we don’t control. We deliver a whole new vy hope for the world’s ATC system,” he concluded.

In a post-Duffy highlighted, the report stated that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is “slow to modernize some of the most important and risky systems.”

“Specifically, given age, sustainability assessment, operational impact levels, and expected dates for modernization or replacement of each system, the FAA had 17 systems of particular concern,” the report states.

“The 17 systems range from just 2 to 50 years old, are unsustainable and are important for national airspace safety and efficiency.”

Duffy’s comments came amidst several recent chaotic events regarding US airspace. Newar Liberty International Airport, the major travel hub in New York City’s metropolitan area, has received hundreds of delays and cancellations since last week.

On Monday, it was discovered that a Philadelphia FAA air traffic controller temporarily lost radar and radio signals while leading the plane to Newark Airport last week.

Duffy appeared on Fox News Channel’s “Story” on Tuesday to discuss the development and informed host Martha McCallum that the last presidential administration is aware of the issue.

“It wasn’t shocking for Joe Biden, it wasn’t shocking for Pete Battigigue,” Duffy said. “They knew we had an old system. They saw GAO’s report saying it was about to fail.”

Officials went on to say he plans to introduce legislation to Congress on the issue.

“[In January] I started digging for FAAs and realized that it wasn’t just a part of the infrastructure. Duffy explained that he had to brand new infrastructure. I spoke to the President. He signed the plan. ”
