As California wildfires rage, powerful fire unions, once neutral, support DHS’s NOEM in 2024

“Their children have no hope. They don’t have parents to come and help them. They have tribal councils and presidents, but they don’t actually make someone’s life better. They are more focused on their political agenda than on show,” Noem said in comments last year that drew criticism from tribes.

Ryder addressed the issue in a letter to Noem on Wednesday, explaining that the governor apologized for her earlier remarks and explained her comments.

The International Association of Firefighters, a large firefighters union that has historically been backed by Democrats, also recently endorsed Noem, saying that during the wildfires raging in Los Angeles, Noem was “an advocate of emergency management and natural disaster prevention.” “We understand the importance of government responses to emergencies, both man-made and man-made.”
