First on Fox: The Trump administration is suing the city of Los Angeles, claiming that the policy is preventing federal immigration officials from doing their jobs.
“The Sanctuary policy was the driving force behind the violence, confusion and attacks Americans have recently witnessed in Los Angeles,” Attorney General Pam Bondy told Fox News in an exclusive statement.
“Jurisdictions like Los Angeles, which disregard federal law by prioritizing illegal foreigners over American citizens, undermine law enforcement at all levels — that ends under President Trump,” Bondy added.

The lawsuit says the city discriminates against federal authorities by treating ice in a different way than other types of law enforcement.
The Justice Department argues that the U.S. Constitution’s superiority clause prohibits this and therefore calls for judges to block policy enforcement.

“The laws and policies of the Sanctuary City are designed to purposely hinder the ability of federal immigration officials to carry out liability in these jurisdictions,” the lawsuit filed Monday said. “Los Angeles ordinances and other policies deliberately distinguish the federal government by restricting access to both property and individual detainees, prohibiting contractors and subcontractors from providing information, and reducing the City of Los Angeles’ decision to continue the lawsuit, thereby deliberating.

“The dominance clause prohibits the city of Los Angeles and its officials from electing the federal government to the federal government, as is the case with the laws and policies challenged.
Los Angeles faced protests and riots earlier this month as ICE conducted operations across the region, leading to a legally challenged development of the National Guard by President Donald Trump. Mayor Karen Bass opposed violence in the city at the time, but said Trump’s military deployment acted as an agitator.
“Last Thursday, Ice started spurring the city by entering our city, chasing people through Home Depots and car washes, showing up at schools and showing up today at emergency rooms and homeless shelters,” Bus said earlier this month.

“Ice intervened in advance to federalize the National Guard, and at the White House, the National Guard was praised for the work they did to maintain peace in the city on Saturday night, but the guards didn’t arrive here until Sunday.
Fox News reached the city for comment, but they did not respond immediately.
