Officials from the National Nuclear Security Agency on Friday tried to notify employees who had been let go the day before.
In an email sent to NNSA employees and obtained by NBC News, authorities wrote:
The individual mentioned by the letter was fired Thursday and lost access to federal email accounts. The NNSA, located within the Department of Energy and oversees the country’s nuclear stockpile, is unable to contact these employees directly and is now asking recipients to email. Email. ”
The Department of Energy did not immediately respond to NBC News’ request for comment.
President Donald Trump’s administration has acted at unprecedented speeds and, in some cases, suspicious legality in trying to cut down much of the federal government, fire staff and close contracts. But that speed has resulted in complications, including things people’s shooting agencies actually want to maintain.
Sources with direct knowledge of the notification say multiple staff members (all civil servants) at the NNSA will be sent after multiple staff members who received a termination notice late Thursday. NBC News reviewed termination notices, including “Notice of termination during the probationary period.”
The NNSA is responsible for designing, building and overseeing the US nuclear weapons reserves.
The termination notice read as “effective today” and within hours a Russian drone that raided the Chernobyl power plant in Ukraine came. The NNSA tracks nuclear risks in Ukraine, including sensor systems.
The NNSA Saga comes when the Trump administration has carried out massive federal firing this week, significantly cutting down jobs for employees who are mostly classified as “probation.”
Some departments have seen huge numbers of layoffs, like the Department of Homeland Security. There, more than 400 people were told that their jobs had been cut.
The move comes as President Donald Trump and one of his top advisors, technological mogul Elon Musk, are trying to cut down the size of the federal government.
Federal cuts are filled with boosts from Democrats, labor unions and progressive organisations. More than 60 lawsuits against the Trump administration are pending over-execution and other violations.
