After the National Security Council saw a massive overhaul in early 2025, the Trump administration’s successful and surprising strike against Iran was executed without any problems on Saturday night, replacing the national security adviser with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, serving an additional job critics said would likely end in failure.
President Donald Trump made a surprise announcement on true social Saturday night when US military announced it had been successful in a trio of Iran’s nuclear facilities as tensions and conflicts have risen since June 12th.
“Some time ago, the US military carried out massive precision strikes at the Iranian regime’s three key nuclear facilities, Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan,” Trump said in a national speech hours after the true social announcement from the White House. “Everyone has heard their names for many years because they built this horribly destructive corporation. Our aim was to destroy Iran’s nuclear enrichment capabilities and to halt the nuclear threat posed by the world’s number one national sponsor. Tonight I can report to the world that the strike is an epic military success.”
By Monday evening, Iran and Israel had agreed to a ceasefire with Trump, declaring that the “12-day war” continued US strikes.
The operation, which was also praised for being a complete success by the Pentagon brass, was executed after the Trump administration slashed the National Security Council and replaced former national security adviser Mike Waltz with Rubio.
Democrats and former National Security Council officials opposed the council’s final cuts and called for the final cuts, claiming Trump could politicize and crippled national security.

But the Trump administration and its supporters saw the overhaul as the president came on a campaign promise to strip Washington from the “deep state” and streamline the office.
The National Security Council works within the White House to advise the president on foreign policy issues.
Other members are chaired by President, Vice President, state secretary, assistants to the Treasury Department, Defense and National Security President. Other council staff include foreign policy experts who frequently join the team on loans from the Pentagon or the State Department.
Since his inauguration, the Trump administration has made small cuts to the National Security Council. Most notably, it trimmed about half of the National Security Council’s 350-person team in May, Fox Digital reported earlier. Waltz, who served as Trump’s national security adviser for about 100 days, was removed from the Post from May 1 and was appointed Trump’s candidate to serve as the UN ambassador following a signal chat leak with journalists.

Following the departure of the Waltz, Trump appointed Rubio as his acting national security adviser and conducted a massive overhaul of the office, including trimming over 100 staff before the anniversary.

“NSC is the ultimate deep state. It’s Marco vs. Deep State. We’re taking away the deep state,” a White House official told Axios in May as Rubio had a hand-hatched NSC staff.
White House officials told Fox Digital that Rubio’s joint role allowed for “a greater coordination between the State Department and the White House.”
But Democrats predicted that Rubio would prove to be a failure to serve simultaneously as State Department chief and Trump’s national security adviser. They argued that he could not juggle famous roles in addition to serving as a representation archivist for the US and acting as a representation administrator for the US International Development Agency.
“There’s no way he can do it and do it well, especially since Pete Hegses is the Secretary of Defense and just screams from top leadership, and Dod has such incompetence.” “There’s no way he can carry all that load on his own.”

Fast forward less than 2 months. Trump and his national security team have carried out Iran’s “Operation Midnight Hammer,” which has received widespread support among Republicans and a small number of Democrats. But historic critics of the president, including Democrat New York State Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massey, opposed the operation to bypass Congressional authorities.
“The success of Operation Midnight Hammer speaks to the unparalleled capabilities of the US military and President Trump’s incredible diplomatic strategies, which have worked closely with his national security team to perfectly carry out this mission and eliminate Iran’s ability to own nuclear weapons.
“As always, Democrats and legacy media were wrong. President Trump has justified immense trust in his top officials, including Director Rubio, Hegus and Gabbard, to help him make the world safer,” she added.
Trump has repeatedly met with the National Security Council and other administrative leaders during strike orders in Iran from June 12th last Saturday.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegses and Vice President JD Vance were the fixtures for the discussion, with photos showing them coming and going to the White House last week when they reported to the situation room to meet with the president. A trio of American officials were caught between Trump when they spoke to the public about the operation on Saturday night.
The White House is seeing a “substantial opportunity” for new negotiations with Iran.
“For 40 years, Iran has been saying, “Death to America. Death to Israel.” They killed our people, blew our arms away, and blew our legs out with roadside bombs,” Trump said in his speech on Saturday that the trio stood behind him. “It was their specialty. We lost over 1,000 people, especially as a direct result of their hatred, hundreds of thousands of people have died in the Middle East and around the world.”
“Iran’s nuclear enrichment facility has been completely wiped out,” Trump said. “And now, Iran, a bully in the Middle East, must make peace, or future attacks will be much bigger and much easier.”
The operation itself was covered in secret, and surprised Iran and the world. Trump said Thursday through comments from spokesman Caroline Leavbit that he would decide to Iran within two weeks, a time slot that showed a longer than 48 hours on such a mission.

There was no media leak or speculation that such a strike was imminent, but early Saturday, six B-2 stealth bombers from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri were found on their way to U.S. Air Force Base in Guam. It was later revealed that the bomber was a decoy.
General Hegseth and General Dan Caine, chairman of the Co-State Chief of Staff, held a press conference from the Pentagon on Sunday to celebrate strategic deceptions and misdirections playing a key role in the operation.
“From midnight on Friday until Saturday morning, there’s a large B-2 strike package consisting of bombers released from the continent of America,” Kane said Sunday. “As part of the plan to maintain tactical surprises, some of the packages have moved into the West and Pacific as decoys, known only to a very few planners and key leaders here in Washington and Tampa.”

Hegses said before the media’s Sunday morning that the US military used “misdirection” and complete secrets to carry out a strike “nothing the world knows” with the exception of the head of national security authorities.
“It involved misdirection and highest operating security. Our B-2s went in and out of these nuclear locations, both inside and outside, without the world knowing at all,” Hegses said. “That’s how it was historical.”

Since 2001, it was the longest B-2 Spirit Bomber mission, the second-longest B-2 mission to date, and the largest B-2 operational strike in US history, Heggs and Kane said at a press conference on Sunday.
Speaking to the media at the Sunday morning show, Rubio told “Sunday Morning Futures” host Maria Bartiromo that “the most important thing” should be aware that “the game is up” following the strike and that it is time for peace.
“They’ve played the world for 40 years with these nuclear talks and delaying things… They’re not going to play President Trump, and when they say he’s going to do something, he doesn’t want to do it. That’s not his first choice.
Trump celebrated Iran and Israel on Monday evening with another true social post, when the 12-day war was over.
“I would like to congratulate both countries, Israel and Iran, on the assumption that everything works normally. Israel and Iran would like to congratulate what should be called the “12-day war,” the “12-day war.” This is a long-standing war. He wrote.
Tensions are still flaring in the Middle East as both Israel and Iran accus each other of violating the ceasefire on Tuesday morning, with Trump declaring Iran’s nuclear capabilities being crippled, urging them to place their weapons.
