More than $5 billion in federal funding to Brown University has been suspended by the Trump administration for the Ivy League’s response to anti-Semitism since Hamas’ 2023 attack in Israel.
White House officials reported that nearly $510 million awarded to the university through a federal contract and grants have been made public, the Associated Press reported, adding that officials spoke on condition of anonymity.
Fox News Digital contacted Brown University but did not respond immediately.
Brown Provost Frank Doyle told campus leaders in an email Thursday that the school knew of “troubling rumors” about the research money, but according to the Associated Press, they didn’t have the information to “prove” the allegations.

President Donald Trump has suspended federal funding for all Ivy League, besides Penn and Dartmouth, over an investigation into anti-Israel protests on campus since October 2023.
Columbia University, which has been stripped of more than $400 million in federal funds, was the first Ivy League to lose money by failing to feel safe on campus. The university fell into demand from the Trump administration later last month, hoping to recover funds.
This week, the Federal Anti-Semitism Task Force published a review of nearly $9 billion Harvard grants and contracts as the university faces anti-Semitism investigations on campus, and Princeton University confirmed that dozens of research grants have been suspended.

The Trump administration has promised to be more aggressive in ending campus anti-Semitism after President Joe Biden said he didn’t hold the university responsible for their violent protests.
“Americans have been watching in fear for over a year as Jewish students are being attacked and harassed on elite university campuses. They are repeatedly collapsed by anti-Semitic students and agitators. Illegal camps and demonstrations are completely paralyzing daily campus businesses, depriving Jewish students of their learning opportunities.
She said schools that receive federal funds “have a responsibility to protect all students from discrimination,” and explained that they would not do so as to question whether universities should “conduct with the US government.”
The administration also moved to detain and deport foreign students who participated or organized anti-Israel protests at American universities.

The Department of Homeland Security announced last month that Brown’s assistant professor who obtained an H-1B visa had been deported to Lebanon to support and attend the funeral of the murdered Hezbollah leader.

Last year, Brown made headlines for a contract with anti-Israeli protesters who took over the university, and promised that a board committee would vote on whether it should be sold from Israeli-related companies.
The Brown company ultimately refused the offer to sell.
