Trump Ally Tuberville raises $2 million on the first day of the Alabama Governor’s Campaign

Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville is showing off his fundraising ability as he launches a bid for Governor of Alabama.

The Tuberville Governor’s campaign on Thursday announced that it would meet at $2,064,723 for $2,064,723 in fundraisers 24 hours after the senator declared the candidate, and would “go far surpass his initial goal and break the previous Alabama record.”

The senator, a strong supporter and ally of President Donald Trump, is considered the forefront of the 2026 race, as the successor to GOP Gov. Kay Ivy, who is term-limited in Republican-controlled states.

“There are two universal truths in Yellowhammer State right now. Alabamians love President Trump and hope that Coach Tuberville will become the next governor,” said Jackie Curtis Cox, a fundraiser for the Tuberville campaign. “I have never seen this momentum in more than a decade in Alabama politics.”

Tommy Tuberville makes a massive announcement

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), who announced his 2026 bid for Governor of Alabama on Tuesday, will arrive at the Senate Republican Caucus Lunch on April 2, 2025 at Capitol in Washington, D.C.

And Cox spotlighted, “These aren’t from PAC donations. All dollars come from small business owners, entrepreneurs, workers and retirees.”

This week’s announcement from Tuberville, a former longtime college football coach who spent 10 years as head coach at Auburn University in Alabama, concluded months of speculation about his ambitions to run for governor in his hometown.

Why Tommy Tuberville is aiming to become governor of Maine

Tuberville has launched a campaign website promoting his “conservative Alabama values.”

And in his first interview after launching his campaign, Tuberville told Fox News “The Will Cain Show” “I’m doing this to help the country and the great state of Alabama.”

A familiar source said support from Trump weeks ago would be a “complete deal” if Tuberville decides to run for governor.

And Tuberville said in an interview with his Fox News that Trump was “completely supportive” in his governor’s run.

He is also supported by a deep pocket club that is politically influential. This is a group of fiscal conservatives who are on their side in the GOP primary.

Lt. Colonel Alabama announced last week that he would not seek an office.

Tuberville was first elected to the Senate in 2020 and ran as an outsider who lined up closely with Trump.

In the Republican primary, he broke through former Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions before resigning in 2017 to serve as Trump’s attorney general. Tuberville defeated incumbent Sen. Doug Jones, the first Democrat to be elected to the Senate in the state of Alabama in decades.

Tuberville’s move to run for governor will set an open Senate seat in Alabama in next year’s midterm elections.
