In a special opening speech to University of Alabama students, President Donald Trump questioned how a legitimate process could be given to those who have illegally entered the United States, replied to a judge who said he was “interfering” with his efforts to do his job as president.
Trump’s comments came on the same day that federal judges permanently banned efforts to deport illegal alien gang members using the centuries-old Alien Enemy Act (AEA).
“As you read, the court is trying to stop me from doing the work I’m chosen to do,” Trump said in his speech to the alumni. “They have to let us do the work our voters want us to do. Judges are probably interfering based on legitimate processes. But how can we give legitimate processes to those who have come illegally to our country? They want to give them legitimate processes. I don’t know.”

Trump issued a declaration in March claiming that Venezuelan gangster Tren DeLagua would be deported under the AEA. Shortly afterwards, the Trump administration began deporting hundreds of gang members, including one Kilmer Abrego Garcia.
Opponents of Trump’s deportation efforts have argued that Abrego Garcia was illegally deported and not a gang member.
However, evidence of Abrego Garcia has emerged as involved in criminal activities like gangs.

In an interview with Fox News, Vice President JD Vance said the Trump administration is actively suing federal court orders to block deportation efforts.

“The judge will not make that decision on whether or not we can deploy alien enemy laws,” Vance told Fox News’ Anchor Brett Baier. “I think the US president is the one who determines whether this country is being invaded or not.”
