President Donald Trump called for the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate the 2020 presidential election.
In a fiery truth social post on Friday, Trump praised the administration for cutting the border crossing to zero in May compared to the Biden administration, which oversaw the release of 62,000 immigrants around the same time last year.
Trump said he doesn’t understand that the president would oversee such an influx of illegal immigrants, and he aimed for the 2020 election.

“Biden is grossly incompetent and the 2020 election was a complete fraud! The evidence is massive and overwhelming. A special prosecutor must be appointed.”
For years, Trump has argued that a string of bad deeds led to Joe Biden’s 2020 victory. On January 6th, 2021, after being led to accreditation of the results of the election college, several pro-Trump marches were held, leading to violent riots at the U.S. Capitol.

Trump and his supporters were unable to convince Vice President Mike Pence to delay certification by sending the results back to Congress in major battlefield states.
Pence rejected the request, claiming that the Constitution did not give the Vice President’s authority a decision to decide which electoral votes to count.
Trump and his allies have filed dozens of lawsuits in various states challenging the outcome. Most cases failed because the judge found himself standing or inadequate evidence. Biden won 306 votes with 81.2 million votes, compared to Trump’s 232 election votes and 74.2 million.

The president made various claims in support of his claim that the 2020 election was “stolen.”
Trump claimed that the vote to harvest “mules” had deposited the vote in a late-night vote after a deadline in major swing states.
He made his claim at the heart of his 2024 re-elect bid, often using the slogan “too big to rig” to urge his supporters to take power and overcome what he described as equipment or unfair systems.
“This cannot happen again in the United States!” Trump said in a post Friday.
“Let’s get started! This meandering man and his corrupt companions went to our country four years later, so indescribable! Make America great again!”
In 2020, Trump Attorney General Bill Barr said there was no evidence of fraud that could affect the outcome, and the Department of Homeland Security’s cybersecurity division declared the “secureest in American history.”

It was unclear who Trump had in mind for the special prosecutor, but if Attorney General Pam Bondy is wary of his call, she may face pressure to appoint someone already confirmed by the Senate.
In recent years, the Justice Department has appointed a series of special advice, which has always, but not always, been picked from outside the agency, to guide investigations on politically sensitive issues, including actions by Biden and Trump.
