President Donald Trump has signed a drastic order to block travel to the US from nearly 20 countries identified as high-risk due to terrorism, visa abuse and failure to share security information.
The new travel restrictions announced under Executive Order 14161 apply to citizens of 12 countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, Somalia, Libya and Yemen, all considered “very high risk” due to terrorist activities, weak or hostile governments, and visa overstay rates.
Trump administrators will reflect on the new travel ban, but it has not yet been decided

Seven more countries, including Venezuela, Cuba and Laos, face partial restrictions.
“President Trump is fulfilling his promise to protect Americans from dangerous foreign actors who want to come to our country and cause harm,” White House assistant reporter Abigail Jackson told Fox News Digital.
She called the restrictions “common sense” and targeted countries that “did not have proper screening or show high visa overstay rates and are unable to share identity and threat information.”
In a video posted Wednesday night, President Trump said, “The recent terrorist attacks in Boulder, Colorado highlighted the extreme dangers posed to our country by the entry of foreigners that have not been properly vetted.

“In the 21st century, we have seen terrorist attacks one after another, with foreign visa oversteering from dangerous places around the world,” he added. “Thanks to Biden’s open door policy, there are millions or millions of these offences that shouldn’t be in our country today.”
Trump said his first term of travel restrictions were “one of our most successful policies” and “an important part of preventing major foreign terrorist attacks on American soil.”

“We cannot make open migration from countries that cannot safely and reliably examine and screen people who try to enter the United States,” Trump said.
“So today, that’s why I’m signing a new executive order that imposes travel restrictions on countries including Yemen, Somalia, Haiti, Libya and others,” he concluded. “We do not allow people who want to harm us to enter our country, and there is nothing that prevents us from keeping America safe.”
