President Donald Trump downplayed rumors that he intends to seek a constitutionally banned third term at the White House on Sunday.
Trump addressed the issue in an interview with NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” which aired Sunday, telling host Kristen Welker that he has no plans to pursue another term.
“I want so many people to do that,” Trump said when Welker asked about the third term.
“That’s something you’re not allowed to do as far as I know. I don’t know if that’s the constitution or not,” he added. “But this is not what I’m trying to do.”

Welker then pressed Trump for someone he believes he will be the successor to the Maga movement after he took office, and Trump referenced both the vice president and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
“There are a lot of great things,” he said of his political allies. “I see enormous unity too, but certainly you’re going to say someone is the VP.

The broader interviews continued to address illegal immigration. There, Trump emphasized that he has no plans to end the emergency declaration on immigration.
“There’s an emergency. There’s a massive emergency overall,” Trump told Welker.

The White House deportation programme faces legal challenges, but illegal border crossings have fallen by about 96% compared to President Joe Biden’s term, according to the Trump administration.

“The border is no longer an emergency,” Trump said. “The borders – but it’s all part of the same thing. For now, the big emergency is that there are thousands of people we want to take out and there are judges that everyone wants to go to court.”
Last week, 100 days before Trump’s 100th day, the White House claimed that 139,000 people had been deported since taking office.
