President Donald Trump on Friday stressed the need to acquire Greenland as part of the United States for international security purposes.
Danish territory has said it is seeking independence from Copenhagen and is not interested in becoming a part of the United States, but Trump has repeatedly offered, a desire to go back to his first administration and secure Greenland for the United States as Russia and China’s presence grows in the Arctic.
“I look at Greenland now, when I look at the waterways, there are ships from China and Russia all over the place, but that’s not possible,” Trump told reporters Friday. “We don’t rely on anyone to take care of Denmark or any of those situations. And we’re not talking about peace in the US, we’re talking about world peace, we’re talking about international security.”

Vance, along with national security adviser Mike Waltz and Utah Republican Sen. Mike Lee, arrived in Greenland on Friday to visit Pitafik Space Station, the northernmost military facility of the Department of Defense. The base is home to Space Force’s 821st Space Station Group to carry out missile warnings, missile defense and space surveillance operations.
Greenland and Greenland leaders are opposed to the president’s wishes, despite Greenland and Greenland leaders opposing their desires for independence from Copenhagen.
However, the Trump administration pointed out that Denmark is facing backlash due to its treatment of Indigenous people from Greenland. A group of indigenous women from Greenland sued the Danish government in May 2024, accusing Danish health authorities of wearing intrauterine devices without knowledge between the 1960s and 1970s.
Trump remains optimistic about the odds to win Greenland: “I think that’s going to happen.”
Left Vice President J.D. V. V. V. V. V. V. V. Left and Second Lady Usha Vance Commission Air Force 2 will be located at Andrews’ joint base on March 28, 2025 on his way to Greenland.
Both Denmark and Greenland began investigating the issue in 2022, with a report expected to be released this year.
A White House official said in a statement to Fox News Digital that the treatment of Danish Greenlanders will attract sufficient attention during Vance’s visit.

“Unfortunately, Danish leaders have spent decades trying to abuse Greenlanders, treat them like second-class citizens, and make the island’s infrastructure fall into devastation. I hope the Vice President will also highlight these points.”
Greenland is rich in natural resources, including oil and natural gas, and both Russia and China have strengthened its presence in the region in recent years.
