The Trump administration on Friday launched a new investigative force to protect “female athletes” from the harmful effects of gender ideology on school programs and activities, further tightening transgender women in school sports and sending warning signals to states that violate the president’s executive order.

The Ministry of Education (DOE) and the Department of Justice (DOJ) have announced the title of the IX Special Investigation Team (SIT) to target transgender women in sports in particular. [OCR] It will take months, and even years to complete the Title IX investigation,” Education Secretary Linda McMahon said Friday.

“OCR under this administration has been moving faster than ever. Title IX Sit ensures even faster and more consistent investigations,” says McMahon. “To all entities that continue to allow men to compete in women’s sports and use women’s intimate facilities. There is a new sheriff in town. There is no longer a denying women’s civil rights.”

Teams drawn from both agencies implement a rapid process to handle the ever-growing number of cases to hand over the investigation of potential DOJ enforcement. McMahon said the IX unit’s title “benefits women and girls in this country who have been subjected to discrimination and insults in their educational activities.”

“Protecting women and women’s sports is an important priority for this Department of Justice,” Attorney General Pam Bondy said Friday. “This collaborative effort with the Ministry of Education allows lawyers to take comprehensive action and use the full power of the law to remedy women’s civil rights violations when women’s sports and spaces are threatened.”

The unit is comprised of OCR investigators and lawyers, the DOE Office of General Counsel, and the DOE Student Privacy and Protection Office, as well as caseworkers and FSA Enforcement Researchers. The unit also includes lawyers from the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division.

The Investigation Force will implement Title IX protections with President Donald Trump’s executive order “to keep men out of women’s sports” and “to defend women against gender ideological extremism.”

This unit comes as Trump faces pushbacks from both lawmakers and judges due to his gender-related orders.

Trump and Democrat Maine Gov. Janet Mills were modest about Trump’s orders banning biological men from women’s sports in February. During a National Association of Governors’ Meeting, Trump accused Mills of violating federal orders by continuing to compete in women’s sports. Following the conflict, the Trump administration has launched an investigation into Maine’s education department.

The USDA has frozen funding for certain Maine education programs due to the state’s uprising. Agriculture Secretary Brook Rollins has indicated that if Maine matches the federal interpretation of Title IX, the funding freeze could be lifted.

Trump’s Title IX unit comes after the Biden administration updated Title IX regulations in 2021 and 2022 to expand protections for LGBTQ+ students.

Under the interpretation of then President Joe Biden, transgender students were protected by sports, bathrooms, changing rooms and other educational programs.
